They have an unlimited plan like Backblaze but allow file revisions to be backed up and restored (i.e. Put a limit on the quantity of data, then charge a higher price for more data.Īn alternative here that is comparable in price (but slightly more expensive) would be Crashplan Pro. Then they can charge extra for it, "Unlimited" as a sales pitch is fairly tired. It would drive their costs through the roof. Instead of an average of 200GB, they'd be jumping to an average of 6TB or something like that. Plus the scale of NAS is, on average, so much bigger than WIndows systems. Just update the already existing software clients. I know I am simplifying the program writing process but there are competing apps which do in fact backup an SMB/network share with no issue, you don't need to write bespoke apps for the device, that is insanity. And that is just to support SMB storage devices.īut it would surely not take a huge amount to be able to point the client at an SMB share (mapped network drive) and transfer the data? i.e I install the client on one ordinary client machine, back ups run, they take the data. Not to mention supporting many physical architectures. Supporting NAS means writing a BB client for many different Linux and FreeBSD implementations which would be very complicated for them. ![]() And so unlimited becomes not so unlimited. Would there be a legitimate way to have it backup this image? Maybe Windows image to documents folder? Then that brings up the issue of "will backblaze backup vhds" (somehow something tells me no). Does anyone know if it can do network drives?ĮDIT: Has anyone done a full restore with backblaze? How long did it take, did it restore the entire system image? (OS and Data)ĮDIT 2: It has been brought to my attention that backblaze does not backup system files or program files. But would it take 2 weeks to restore?Īlso, does anyone know if this can be used on severs and NASs or just PCs? I guess if my systems don't crash in two weeks, that is fine. The page says that on average it takes 2 weeks to backup. My first question is the 2 week initial backup period. Does anyone have experience deploying backblaze? A fellow spicehead just recommended backblaze to me and I want to see what the community thinks about using it in a business setting. ![]()
